What the record shows

The A319 is the shortened member of the A320 family and entered service with Swissair in April 1996. In thirty years of airline flying no one has been killed in a flight accident involving the type. One passenger death is on record: in May 2026 a passenger fell on the stairs while leaving a parked LATAM A319 at Sao Paulo Congonhas and died two days later in hospital. Five aircraft have been written off, all with no deaths on board: a ground collision while under tow at New York in 2003, a landing short of the runway at Palermo in 2010, a set of mobile stairs that struck the tail during boarding at Frankfurt in 2019, a hangar door that struck an aircraft under maintenance at Naples in 2020 with nobody aboard, and a rejected takeoff at Chongqing in 2022. Aircraft destroyed on the ground by military action are excluded from this rate by policy.
