Is American Airlines safe?

One of the world's largest airlines. Mainline fleet has had no fatal accident since AA587 in 2001; American Eagle Flight 5342 (operated by wholly-owned PSA Airlines) was lost in the January 2025 Potomac mid-air collision with a military helicopter (67 fatalities), which the NTSB attributed primarily to helicopter-route design and altitude deviation.
